Men – Movie Review
Have you ever stared open mouthed, in horror and disgust at your tv for 8 minutes straight? Well I now have. I’m still confused about what the fuck I just saw.
The Plot
After the traumatic death of her husband, Harper Marlowe (Jessie Buckley) decides to take some time away in the small British village of Cotson. As she settles into the beautiful country house she’s renting, in fractured scenes, the events leading up to her husband’s suicide are revealed. The real horror comes into play though, when you realize every person she meets in the village is a man. The same man (Rory Kinnear).
Will Harper make it out of Cotson alive? Is her husband’s suicide tied to the strange men Harper is meeting now? Find out by watching Men!
My Thoughts
I’m really conflicted. On one hand the movie is kind of therapeutic. It’s about a woman trying to get over the traumatizing death of her husband. I resonated with the main character and really felt for the raw emotions she was dealing with. On the other hand, the ending was strange… Like really strange. Like what the fuck did I just see kind of strange. It’s gross. It’s confusing. It’s weird. But hey, it’s a horror movie.
Apart from the grossness at the end, I think the movie was really good. The music in it was fantastic, the acting was great, and the parallels and allegories were very well thought out. It’s the kind of movie that won’t leave your mind easily (for better or for worse).
If you are up for an interesting horror/thriller with a unique ending, pop yourself some popcorn and check out Men!
