Delicious in Dungeon – Season 1 Review

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Delicious in Dungeon is an adorable anime about a group of adventurers dining their way to the menacing red dragon that ate their friend.

It’s a little silly, but it’s really cute. If you like a more wholesome anime, you might really like this one! I know I did.

Plot

The story takes place in a fantasy world full of sword wielders and spellcasters traversing through dungeons for riches. After a failed attempt to slay a red dragon, a group of adventurers tries to recoup after their companion, Falin, used her last moments to magically teleport them to safety as she was eaten. The group doesn’t have much time. If they can get back to the dragon before Falin is digested they can resurrect her, but if they don’t make it she will be lost forever. The problem is they weren’t strong enough to slay the dragon the first time around and they don’t have any money or supplies because they all got left in the dungeon. What can they do? They’ve gotta eat.

Well, Laios, Falin’s brother, has a solution. They’ll be able to make it back to the dragon in no time if they… eat dungeon monsters on the way! And so begins a lighthearted adventure (as lighthearted as saving someone from being digested by a dragon can get that is) as the party eats their way to the level the dragon lives on. Monsters on their own can taste kind of nasty though. That’s where Senshi comes in! Senshi is a Dwarf whose passion is living sustainably in the dungeons. He’s a gentle soul, a fantastic cook, and invaluable to his newfound companions as they traverse the treacherous dungeon floors, eating monsters along the way.

My Thoughts

delicious in dungeon

I really liked this anime. It’s not the kind of anime you watch if you want a deep plot, but it’s perfect to turn on if you just want to watch something light before bed. I found myself curious every episode about what kind of monster they would be cooking and how Senshi would prepare it into a delicious dish.

That’s it! Pop some popcorn, reach for the remote and watch Delicious in Dungeon! (It’s on Netflix.)
