Bodkin – Season 1 Review
I really liked this one. It felt just a little slow at the beginning but that changed really fast once the mystery kicked in!
Plot
“When I started this podcast, I didn’t expect to solve anything. I didn’t expect it to change my life.” – Gilbert
Bodkin revolves around a trio of true crime podcasters as they investigate a 20 year old cold case involving the disappearance of 3 people during the Irish town of Bodkin’s Samhain festival (basically Halloween).
The group consists of some pretty contrasting personalities. Leading the group is Gilbert Power (Will Forte), the seasoned podcaster desperate for a win who approaches their work in Ireland much like a tourist. Emmy Sizergh (Robyn Cara) is Gilbert’s research assistant. She is excited about doing the podcast but struggles with being a people pleaser. Dubheasa “Dove” Maloney (Siobhán Cullen) is an investigative journalist who really just hates everything about being there. Her boss assigned her to Gilbert’s podcast very much against her wishes after the suicide of a government whistle blower she was working with.
As the crew begins investigating, they realize there might be more to Bodkin than meets the eye.
Will the crew solve the mystery of what happened 20 years ago? Will they find they have more pressing problems to worry about? Watch Bodkin to find out!
My Thoughts
I really liked Bodkin! Beautiful scenery, deep story, twists and turns that keep you on your toes, Bodkin is a mystery that highlights the complexity of people’s lives.
A lot of the time when watching a series, I find that it lulls a bit over half way through. There are usually some episodes that are a bit boring, and I find myself just wanting to get to the conclusion. Bodkin is different though. It takes an episode or two to ramp up but after that every episode is engaging and illuminates another piece of the puzzle.
That’s it! Check out Bodkin on Netflix! If you enjoy mysteries and thrillers, this one might be for you.
Don’t forget to pop some popcorn. 😉
